COURSE OBJECTIVE
NEBOSH, in collaboration with the British Health and Safety Regulator, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), has developed a comprehensive course known as the NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Health and Safety Leadership Excellence. This course is specifically designed to enhance leadership skills within the realm of health and safety, making it an excellent choice for HSE leadership training.

COURSE CONTENTS
  • Element 1: The Foundations of health and safety Leadership
– The reasons for and benefits of health and safety leadership excellence, the importance of an agreed health and safety vision and the business benefits excellent health and safety leadership brings;
– The moral, legal and financial reasons for good health and safety leadership;
– How leaders can gain assurance that health and safety is being managed effectively;
– How good leadership can positively influence health and safety culture challenge the validity of risk information, as well as gaining an understanding of the impact of psychology on decision making.

  • Element 2: Human Failure and Decision-Making
– Understand how human failure can impact on health and safety culture and how the ‘Make it happen’ model can help to change behaviours;
– Recognise how mental short cuts, perception biases, habits and beliefs can influence the decision making process.

  • Element 3: Leadership
– The meaning of transformational, authentic, resonant and transactional leadership styles;
– The application of the five values and supporting foundations of the HSE’s health and safety leadership model;
– How relationships with the workforce can be built by effective leadership communication.

ASSESSMENT
Learners will need to complete reflective statements at different points throughout the course. The statements will need to highlight how their knowledge, skills and behaviours can have a positive and negative effect on health and safety performance at their company and be based on:
  • Building and promoting a share health and safety vision;
  • Being considerate and responsive;
  • Providing support and recognition;
  • Promoting fairness and trust in relationships with others;
  • Encouraging improvement and innovation and learning.

Learners are also required to make a post-course action plan. The plan should include a commitment to a leadership intervention that will improve health and safety management within their area of influence.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS OVERVIEW
There are no formal entry requirements, however NEBOSH recommend that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.
