Description of the course
An audit shows what a management system actually does, not what its manual says it does. This course trains the person who has to run that audit: plan it, lead the team through it, and stand behind the findings afterwards.
Five days, delivered as a virtual class in English. Audit principles, programme management and method follow ISO 19011:2026, the current edition of the international guidelines for auditing management systems. The course covers the requirements and auditing practice of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 together with the ISM Code, the ISPS Code and the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended. The course ends with an examination and a practical assessment. The certificate lists the topics covered.

- Apply the maritime requirements of the ISM Code, the ISPS Code and the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended, in an audit;
- Manage an audit programme and apply the audit principles and methods of ISO 19011:2026;
- Plan and conduct an audit, and carry the role and responsibilities of a lead auditor;
- Classify and report audit findings as conformity, nonconformity, observation or opportunity for improvement;
- Carry out root cause analysis, plan corrective actions and make recommendations;
- Follow up corrective actions, verify closure and complete the audit.

- The audit process: planning and conducting audits, auditing methods and standard auditing techniques;
- The role and responsibilities of a lead auditor;
- PESTLE and SWOT analysis;
- Classification and reporting of audit findings: conformity, nonconformity, observation and opportunity for improvement;
- Root cause analysis, corrective action planning and recommendations;
- Follow up on corrective actions and audit completion;
- Effectiveness review and verification of closure.
