Training on prevention and response to violence and harassment, including sexual harassment, bullying and sexual assault (in accordance with STCW Code standard A-VI/1-4 and RESOLUTION MSC.560(108))

What is this course?

This course is designed to update seafarers’ knowledge and awareness of harassment and bullying prevention onboard ships. It focuses on creating a safe, respectful and professional working environment at sea.

All seafarers must complete approved training on the prevention of harrasment, bullying, and sexual harassment at sea as part of their Basic Safety certification.
This course is intended for:
  • Seafarers who have previously completed full or refresh Basic Safety Training (BST);
  • Officers and ratings with safety-related duties onboard;
  • Crew members who are required to comply with new IMO/STCW requirements regarding harassment and bullying prevention.
This course is developed in accordance with:
  • STCW Code requirements related to Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities
  • IMO guidance on prevention of Harassment, Bullying and Workplace Violence at sea
  • Company and Flag State implementation standards for maritime safety culture

You can collect your certificate at the Novikontas Training Center. Please send a photo in advance by email and bring your previous certificate with you.

Course contents

This module covers:
  • Basic understanding of harassment, bullying and sexual violence, including early warning signs (continuum of harm);
  • Impact of abusive behaviour on victims, offenders, witnesses and organisations, including effects on safety, health and wellbeing;
  • Influence of abuse of power, discrimination, stress, isolation, fatigue, alcohol and drug use in violence and harassment cases;
  • Identification of incidents of harassment, bullying and sexual violence;
  • Appropriate intervention and reporting procedures;
  • Final knowledge test.
  • Passport/ ID Card
  • Seafarer’s Physical examination certificate (international certificate issued in accordance with STCW in EU/EEZ)
  • Basic Safety Training (A-VI/1-1; A-VI/1-2; A-VI/1-3; A-VI/1-4) valid certificate
2 hours online via Zoom
  • Riga, Latvia, Novikontas Training center;
  • Online via Zoom.
70 EUR;
The validity of this certificate remains the same as the original Basic Safety Training (BST) certificate.
The expiry date of the main BST certificate is not changed by completion of this course.
