Advanced Fire Fighting – Refresher Course

Description of the course
Target group
1. Seafarers with Existing Certification: Individuals who already hold a valid Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF) certificate and need to refresh their knowledge and skills to maintain their certification.
2. Officers and Ratings: Marine officers and ratings who are required by international maritime regulations, such as the Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), to undergo periodic refresher training.
3. Shipboard Fire Team Members: Members of shipboard fire fighting teams who need to ensure they remain proficient in advanced fire fighting techniques and procedures.
4. Engineers and Deck Officers: Deck officers and marine engineers who are responsible for safety and emergency procedures on board.
5. Personnel on Ships Operating Internationally: Personnel working on ships engaged in international voyages who are required to comply with the STCW convention's requirements for advanced fire fighting training.
Objectives of the course
In this course the participants will be competent to take command, organize and train fire parties and control fire-fighting operations. The seafarers will have acquired knowledge of fire prevention and an ability to inspect and service fire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment. They will also be able to investigate and report on incidents involving fire.
Course contents
The Training course covers the following topics:
  • Introduction, safety and principles;
  • Tactics and procedures of fire control in various situations;
  • Organization and training of fire parties;
  • Inspection and service offire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment;

Approval
The course complies all requirements of the STCW Convention Chapter VI, Sections A-VI/3 and Table A-VI/3 of the SCTW Code, as well as covers all subject areas recommended by IMOModel course 2.03 “Advanced Training in Fire Fighting”.




The course is certified by Latvian Maritime Administration.

Certificate is valid 5 years.
Income requirements
1. Existing Certification: Candidates must hold a valid Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF) certificate. This is usually the primary requirement for enrolling in the refresher course.
2. Valid identity document (passport/ID card);
3. Sea Service Requirements: The seafarer must have completed at least 12 months of sea service within the last 5 years. This experience should be relevant to roles that include fire fighting duties or responsibilities aboard a ship.

Training approaches and equipment
During training course theoretical lessons are given using PowerPoint presentations and mock-up of fire fighter outfit and instrumentation, practical tasks are based on a real scenarios and conducted using following equipment: building for smoke and fire drills, breathing apparatus, fire trays, hydrants, hoses nozzles, different type of portable extinguishers, firefighting outfits, etc.
