The DP Refresher and Competency Assessment Course

Description of the course
Target group
  • The course is intended for those who have already been issued a DPO Certificate from the NI and required to refresh their knowledge about DP
○ DPO with 30 DP days or more;
  • The course also allows DPOs who have not been on working DP vessels a method to refresh their knowledge about DP operations, DP Bridge team work, Emergency DP resource Management and to stay current with the latest industry guidelines;
  • The DP Refresher and Competency Assessment Course may be completed at any time as required.
Objectives of the course
Those who successfully complete this course will have acquired a thorough knowledge of the latest rules and regulations, latest developments within sensors and PRS, latest relevant DP incidents and why they occurred and practical aspects of DP operations.

Trainee will be capable of:
  • Recognizing the various alarm, warning and information messages;
  • Carrying out operational planning, risk assessment and hazard identification tasks;
  • Setting up the DP system for a particular task/operation;
  • And deciding on courses of action because of system failure.
Duration of the training course
The duration of the course is 5 working days.
Price
The price is 1500 EUR.
Certificate validity
Certificate is valid for 5 years.
Course contents
The course has a significant component of simulations which include failures, and this will be of
particular benefit to DPOs who work on vessels which are on DP 24/7. The overall course aim is
to update the DPOs with the latest rules and regulations, position references and sensors,
known DP incidents and lessons learned.

Course content is to match exactly the NI DP Revalidation course. The DP Refresher and
Competency Assessment Course covers the following topics:
  • DP Rules and Regulations;
  • DP Sensors and PRS;
  • DP Set Up;
  • DP Bridge Watchkeeping;
  • Position Keeping;
  • Environmental Conditions;
  • Alarms and Indicators;
  • Change of DP Watch;
  • Normal Completion of a DP Operation;
  • Operating in Joystick Mode (DP Joystick);
  • Emergency Situation;
  • Emergency Performance/Response.
Income requirements
The minimum entry requirement is a DPO Certificate issued by the NI and a valid Passport.
