GWO Basic Safety Training
WORKING AT HEIGHTS INITIAL TRAINING INCLUDING R-ALF TRAINING

Target group
  • Personnel who will be working in the wind industry or related fields and will have their duties in a wind turbine environment, usually in physical contact with a wind turbine or WTG structure.
  • Personnel that perform job functions that have been risk assessed by their employer or their workplace duty holder as a function, where training according to one or more modules of the BST standard may mitigate of the identified risks.
Objectives of the course
The aim of this training is to enable participants, through both theoretical and practical training, to use personal protective equipment, work safely at height, and perform basic rescue operations from height in a remote wind turbine environment.

After successfully completing Working at Height Initial Training participants have the ability to:
  • Take responsibility when working at height using personal protective equipment and performing basic rescue operations from height in a remote wind turbine environment (Ability, intermediate level).

The GWO BSTr Working at Heights module is approved by Global Wind Organisation (GWO).

Any equipment used during this GWO training module shall meet or exceed the minimum requirements of the national standards in the country where the training is taking place. When working in a country where there is no applicable national standard then the equipment shall meet or exceed the minimum requirements of the European standards.

Lesson 9 - Measures to prevent injury during training;
Lesson 10 - Practical exercises;
Lesson 11 - Risks, hazards and suspension trauma;
Lesson 12 - Emergency procedures;
Lesson 13 - PFPE review;
Lesson 14 - Rescue devices and rigging setup;
Lesson 15 - Measures to prevent injury during training;
Lesson 16 - Rescue exercises;
Lesson 17 - Training Review.
Course limitations
The maximum number of participants is 12 persons for one instructor for theoretical and 6 persons for instructor for practical exercises.
Delegate prerequisites
  • All personnel participating in Basic Safety Training shall be medically fit and capable of fully participating.
  • Participation in a course according to the GWO standards requires a special identification number for each participant. Each person must have this so-called “WINDA identification number (WINDA-ID)”.
